Wearing waders on the plane
I am referring to those overalls with the rubber boots attached. I would wear trousers underneath the waders because I likely would have to remove them thru security.
While I see these outfits in Anchorage at the Penn Air and Era lounges, I can't recall any in O'Hare or Seattle, where I will be. Is wearing them just too weird? The reason I would even consider wearing them is because they are crucial to the enjoyment of my trip so I do not want to pack them for fear they will be lost. I could carry them on, but that would be about 100% of my carryon luggage and I have some important camera gear as well, plus the normal carryon essentials that should not be checked. I will not be fishing, just wading while wildlife watching. So there are no poles or tackle. Thank you. |
You could really throw TSA for a loop by going commando style while wearing waders. Not sure they have a procedure in their manuals for that.

Just tell them you need to wear the waders in the event of a water landing.
So, you wouldn't need to wear them through security since they shouldn't be checking to see how many carry-ons you have. It's the gate agent you need to get past. I would probably just take them as a third carry-on, and if the gate agent objected, I would put them on to wear onto the plane. To me, it's like taking a winter coat with you onto the plane with two carry-ons. You've got this big, bulky piece of clothing you won't need on the plane, but need to put someplace. Alternatively, get a shopping bag from one of the airport stores and put them in there. Most airlines don't object to airport shopping. |
Gosh, they will be useful when the washroom is occupiesd, you wont need to leave your seat, just hope the aircraft does not do a loop

The shopping bag is a wonderful idea! I have decided to mail the waders in advance as suggested by some people in the Fodor's Lounge. Now why didn't I think of that?! They had some good comments too, along the lines of hoping there are no loopty-loops.

I hope seatbelt Wally sees this posting. It could be a solution to his problem with being unable to reach the restroom.
