warning on E-tickets purchased on Expedia.com

Just because Expedia sells you an E-ticket doesn't mean airlines (esp. foreign airlines) will accept it. I was forced to buy a new ticket in zurich ($3,500!)at the gate because Expedia sold me an E-ticket that was supposed to be a paper ticket, even tho they have my address etc to mail any paper ticket. Always check with the airline and see if they will accept Expedia's E-ticket. It is very humiliating at the gate. What can I do for compensation for all the related costs of this mess, ie faxes, phone calls, credit card interest, etc.

I would write them a letter detailing what happened and demand they reimburse you. Include copies of all your receipts. Meanwhile, contest the charge for the original Expedia ticket with your credit card company. You must do so right away because there is a small time window to contest a charge. If Expedia does not respond positively, you could always write Conde Nast Traveler's Ombudsman.

Make sure you quote back their Expedia Promise back to them in your letter...
