Using Miles question

All

I should know the answer to this but I don't. I want to try to snag one of the elusive seats on NWA to Maui using miles. I have called the airline and know the day the inventory comes on line. However, what I don't know is how to book a round trip. Assuming I am able to get a miles seat for the outbound, what do I do about the return? That inventory will not yet be released. I fear if I wait for that to be released, I will not get the outbound.

Does that make sense?

Thanks.

Can you call and put a hold on it? Then change the return date?

It does.

I can't tell you about NWA but AA allows a 2 week hold on award tickets so what many do is reserve the outbound, put a hold on it and week, 10 days, or 2 weeks later try to snatch the return. Don't know if it's the same for NWA.

That said, I never had problems getting couple of first class award tickets to Hawaii on AA about 2-3 months before the trip.

Good luck!

Thanks to Wally and AAFF for your advice. Of course, I totally forgot that you can put a hold on FF tickets. I have been booking so many things last minute lately that I just always grab what I can get.

Wish me luck. I need 5 tickets for the first day of spring break and I am not terribly hopeful. I know I will end up springing for some, if not all, of them but I have this vision of a totally budget friendly trip using all miles and points. We shall see.....

When I was going to NZ (with USAir FF points), I called and explained to them what the situation was. I reserved but didn't pay for the outbound until I got the inbound 3 weeks later. That was 3 years ago, so I don't know what the policy is now. ((*))
