Using Delta ff miles on Continental?
 

I know this alliance ends in October, but I see award flights (Sept) on Continental website (to Europe) for less miles (50,000) than on Delta/NWA websites. Is there a way to book these if you don't have a Continental ff account?

You will have to book it through Delta and pay what Delta is charging. There is no way to transfer the miles or to book directly with Continental, using Delta miles.

Personally, I wouldn't book a coach flight to Europe with for 50k miles. Tickets are so cheap this year, that such a redemption represents pretty poor value for the miles.

We have reservations for September on Continental
and made them several months ago using Delta
Skymiles. You don't need a ff flyer account with their alliance partners to use your Delta miles as far as I know. Call Delta and give them the information on the Continental flight and ask if you can book it. Hope it works for you.

I know I can book a flight on Continental with Delta FF miles. My question is if I can get it for the 50,000 (not the 60,000 Delta wants).

I understood Kybourbon. I also know that the tickets are cheap but for those on very limited budgets it is still good...

Kybourbon I would not pay the 600 plus dollars that it might cost esp. when it is more then one person. We were looking at going to Italy in December (we are not...Palm Desert here we come..they have gondala rides at the Marriott LOL) anyway - we were going to use our FF miles... if it is over 500.00 a ticket for me (and I know that is subjective) it is worth it to use ff miles..AA often has cheap "mileage" to LHR - I have seen it as low as 40,000 miles.

I'm in a Delta hub so must stick with SkyTeam.

I have more delta miles - due to Amex partnership - but dh used AA for years - and we have a citibank AA card.

At the time I booked our Continental flight which was lower miles also and booked through Delta they accepted the Continental miles and there were some higher ones on the Delta site.

As a Delta FFer you can indeed book on CO (at least until October 24, 2009 when CO exits SkyTeam), but Delta is notorious for not displaying partner flights when you try to book online on the Delta site. Also, on the Delta site it states that for travel on CO you must use the Delta mileage levels for redemption. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Bummer, but it sounds like violetduck was able to book for less miles. That could have been during the discount promotion Delta ran not too long ago.

I also live in the Delta hub system, in Cincinnati. We just used the bulk of our remaining FF Delta miles to fly to Hong Kong/Beijing on Continental. We booked these just days before the big milage changes though.

You don't have to stick with skyteam out of this area though. For the last 2 years we've flown United and it's partners for the majority of our international travel since the ticket prices have been much lower than Delta's. United has flights to Washington D.C. and Chicago so you can connect to their international system. We've saved alot doing this and now have many more United miles than Delta miles.

We are planning to use some AmEx points so United doesn't work.

You will have to call Delta to redeem your FF miles on the CO flight. They will charge you 60K miles and their fees are higher + you will be hit with an extra charge for calling to redeem.

I would only recommend doing this if you prefer flying CO (which I do), and/or your travel partner holds Skymiles and you hold Onepass miles (as my husband and I do.)
