United to London: |What's for entertainment?
Hi! In two days my family and I will be flying to London on United, an airline we have never flown before to London. What can we expect in the way of entertainment? We're taking a morning flight out of Washington Dulles that arrives at Heathrow at 10:00 p.m., so I do not want my two kids (or the adults, either) sleeping too much on the plane. Thanks for any tips you can give me about the entertainment on board.

Schedule shows that's a 767, which has individual seatback screens with a choice of about nine channels. December selections include:

Personal video screen with 9 channels of video plus audio on the 767-300.
You'll find the link for possible movies here: http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,1070,00.html |
To ms_go and rkkwan: Thanks so much for these links! I did not know United's website had such detailed info on the entertainment. Terrific! I'm glad it's going to be individual screens. Good movies, too -- I don't think we'll be bored.

Meant to add...your iPod or similar headphones will work in the jacks. I always prefer those to the cheap ones United leaves in the seats/seat pockets.

Does UA use a single plug or those airline-style dual plugs for headphones? I know most US airlines use the dual ones. To get stereo sound, you'll need to get a airline adapter like the Radio Shack, part #42-2495 ($5.99). Otherwise, both your phones will only give you left or right channel, but not both.

rkkwan--single plug. I use my iPod headphones almost exclusively on UA. I've never used an adaptor and haven't had any significant issues with movies--although I tend not to pay full attention to the movies while flying, anyway.

Thanks! Haven't flown UA for longhaul for a long time. Last time was PVD-ORD-HKG a few years ago and I hadn't become so fussy about planes back then. :D
