United or American Airlines?
 

I will be flying to Los Angeles and I have the choice of flying on American or United for the same price. I would like to know which would be the better choice. I would be flying a 757 with American so there would be no extra legroom, so I was wondering which airline would be the better bet. A United 767-300 or an American 757. Thanks.

A 767 with 2-3-2 seating will be more comfortable than a 757 with 3-3 seating, especially for long cross-country trip. Where are you flying from?

767 widebody aircraft = more aisle seats. 757 = metal tube. It's also known as the "flying pencil"

I'm a true fan of AA, but in this case, UA wins. I'll take a 763 over a 757 anyday. Although, if it was me I would still take AA (elite, miles, etc.). I just hate the 757, and even sitting in the front has not changed my mind about that awful tin box.
If you don't have any loyalty to either airline, take the UA flight.

If it was UA 762, I might have had a different opinion. UA's 762s are old, more than 15 years in most cases and they have not been upgraded lately, but the 763 is fairly new, with all the bells and whistles including Economy+. If somehow you could get yourself in that section, then you will really enjoy the flight.

Just came back from Italy on AA and it is the worst trip of my life. Food? was horriable, movies were old as the hills, the FAs all had an attitude problem, planes are dirty and not maintained, toliets were not stocked with the necessary items for a long flight and on and on. The only thing on the international legs were the extra legroom, I think it was a little more than the usual but not by much. Perhaps you already know, but I just learned about www.seatguru.com from someone on here. It has the configurations of all the planes and pros and cons of different seats on the plane.
I used to fly back and forth from DC to LA about once a month for 4 yrs. through about 2001. The 767s were the much more preferable way to go. I liked American's service better in first or business (not sure on coach- this was business travel). But when American cut their service back on that route, I started flying United and they have gotten better in the last few yrs.
