I'm glad you posted this because I have a question. I will have a very long layover at LHR in a couple of month. I will not be flying United but I have a pass for the lounge. I am flying from T5. Will I be able to get into this lounge?

janisj Jul 21st, 2015 05:53 PM

P_M: Since the lounge is airside I don't see how. You won't have a boarding pass to get into Departures at T-2.

JaneB Jul 22nd, 2015 02:56 AM

So you can only use the United Club if you fly into and out of T2??

P_M Jul 23rd, 2015 01:04 PM

Good question JaneB. Does anyone know?

janisj Jul 23rd, 2015 03:27 PM

I haven't transferred into T-2 for years (long before all the airlines have been reassigned and T-5 was built) but I'd assume it is just like most everywhere else . . . you can't go through security /enter airside w/o a boarding pass for that terminal

Maybe someone else knows for sure.

you dont have to be flying united to use the united club as long as you have a pass...but it a really long walk between places, even if you are in terminal 2, going from just the A side to the B side can take about 20 minutes so I dont know that you would want to switch terminals just to use the club...but that is your decision. We were in A terminal for one of our flights and its a long walk to and from but we had time and ofcourse we were in B terminal at the gate just outside the club for the other flight so that was great, but each time we had about 3 hours to kill so it was worth it...

We know she can use the pass for the United Lounge . . . But the problem is can she get into T-2 airside w/o a boarding pass.

P_M will be flying BA and only have a boarding pass for T-5.

P_M Jul 26th, 2015 06:10 AM

My question has been answered. I called BA this morning and the lady didn't know the answer but she called LHR to ask if I can get into T2. The answer is no, if I'm not flying from T2 then I won't be allowed to enter. Rats. :-(

To the OP what a great blog. Thank you.

I was born and raised in Chi town and we still go there every so often to downtown to lunch with our son and his fiancé. You are so correct about everything you said. There is such a variety of food and activities its endless.

If we could just tame those winners. :).

I have a similar question and am looking for suggestions. I will fly United into LHR in September. I have 8 hours before I have to fly out on British Air. I have club passes and would like to use them to freshen up. Am I required to go straight to immigration? Will I be allowed to use the club once I get off my flight. I will have checked bags. I am not eligible for the arrivals club. Any suggestions?

janisj Aug 17th, 2015 09:44 AM

Rsnygg: No you don't have to go through immigration straightaway -- but I don't see how that would help you. AFAIK the lounges are in Departures and you'd have to exit arrivals (through immigration/customs) to get landside and then go through security to departures to get to the lounge . . . Which you can't do because you won't have a boarding pass for T-2.

I don't think there is any way you can go airside from T-2 arrivals to T-2 departures w/o an onward ticket/boarding pass.

Is your pass ONLY for the main (departures) lounge and not the arrivals club too?

P_M Aug 17th, 2015 04:31 PM

I don't think United has an arrivals club at LHR. If they did have a landside club then I would use it.

>>I don't think United has an arrivals club at LHR. If they did have a landside club then I would use it.<<

Yes - they do have an Arrivals lounge. And AFAIK there is no landside lounge.

Per United's website:

>>Arrivals Lounge
United Global First and United BusinessFirst customers arriving at Terminal 2 from the U.S. will be able to enjoy a complimentary shower and refreshments at the Arrivals Lounge, located in the terminal’s Arrivals Hall.<<

I kind of figured. Thanks for the help. Not eligible for the arrivals lounge.
