UA f class seats 1A &J
We're flying from SFO to PEK in October and are flying United as a codeshare with Air China...thank goodness! We're part of a tour group and had no choice about airlines, but were relieved to see United metal will actually take us there. Anyway, we chose 1A & J because we read it was great for couples and very intimate. Until now, always flown C class, so don't know all that much about F. Now, I'm reading maybe 1A/J are kinda claustrophobic and not so great after all. Anyone flown in those 747 seats and can give me an experienced answer?
Thanks in advance, Betsy |

I have not flown UA in F, but I have flown similar setups with CX, QF and BA on their 747s. Although the 2nd picture posted by rkkwan makes it look like there may be feet to face interaction on UA, not so on the above mentioned airlines. :-)
For a couple that wants to talk and still have privacy, I would recommend the 2 middle seats next to each other. Row 1 suites makes one almost scream when having a conversation, so unless you don't want to talk to your partner at all, grab 2 suites in the middle. No windows, but a nice way to interact with your partner and still have total comfort and privacy. Have a great trip, and suites will guarantee it! :-D |
I think the seats AAFF's refering to are 4EF and 5EF, though seatguru.com and others don't like row 5.

Just one more comment:
I also chose 1A when flying CX for the first time. Changed my mind as soon as I got on the plane, Loved 2A, but I was traveling alone. QF, I did like 1A but only because it was far enough apart from 1K, and the somewhat "weird acting Hollywood actress" sitting there was in some strange way, very entertaining on the way to Sydney. :-) (before anybody asks, I really don't know who she was, just that she will be in the new "Superman returns" movie. Maybe it was already released???) I chose 1A on BA and I did like it. 1A/1K is not very conducive to having any type of conversation with your partner. It's possible, and it's doable, just not very private. |
Those first seats look closer together and I thought my husband and I could talk, but guess you guys are the experts. Did any of you find the 1A seats to be more cramped at all or is that much of an issue?
OH, thanks for the replies and pics. I sure appreciate them. betsy |
no, they are no different than the other seats, in fact, the closet in the nose makes the seats more private but without being any more/less cramped.
