UA/CO connection: How is IAD as compared to IAH?

I have a trip next year to Manila with UA/CO, and I was wondering if connecting through Washington Dulles would be better or as good as connecting through Houston. The air fare is the same but if I connect through IAD, it will shave ~2.5hrs from my total travel time. I don't have a problem using Houston even though I find terminal B to be one of the smallest I have encountered departing and arriving from STL. I found Customs & Immigration to be quite efficient at IAH too, and I just love Continental (...too bad about the merger). Through IAD, the metal would be UA.

Thanks.

Been through both they are ok prefer IAH

Dulles has those away from the airport

elavator people movers

they use a lot for some flights instead of

pulling up to the gate seem to get a lot

of those on international flights.

Odds are as long as you get a gate you will be ok

But if not more delays due to this coming into Dulles for me.

Probably Capitol//terrorist issues make entry more complex.

What time of the year is your trip? that makes a difference on delays at IAD.

Thanks for your input, qwovadis.

Yestravel, it will be early or mid-February 2012.

Lots of snow/ice storm delays that time of year. U might be better off avoiding IAD if u can.

Good point, yestravel......thanks!

Are you departing from STL? Can't you a ORD connection with a much shorter overall in-flight time?

yestravel Aug 16th, 2011 06:51 PM

ORD in February???? Maybe not such a good idea

I try to avoid airports in the north when I'm traveling in the winter. I would go for IAH if possible.

I guess the second leg of the trip would be either IAH-NRT on CO or IAD-NRT on UA? In economy or a premium cabin? I'd probably give more thought to seat comfort for the TPAC leg than I would for what connecting city to use. If it was old-style United biz class vs CO B/F then I'd go via IAH, I think. Economy plus vs regular economy then I might go via IAD or ORD.

But there is a much higher chance of a foot of snow falling on IAD or ORD than IAH.

JoyC Aug 19th, 2011 07:13 AM

rkkwan: yes, going through ORD would be shorter but again in February the issue might be weather as yestravel has inferred.

mrwunrfl: thanks for your input. I will go economy plus but what I like about CO are the personal TV screens....it makes the 15++ hrs of flight time at least bearable for me.

Thanks everybody. I will go via IAH.
