Turkish Airlines or Ethiyopean airlines
Anybody with experience flying long distance with Turkish airlines and Ethiopean airlines?

I did a return trip with Ethiopian from Heathrow to Addis in economy. The service was good. I don't recall what we were fed so it must not have been enything too unusual. All crew spoke English well. I would not hesitate to fly with them again were the occasion to present itself. This was in 2005. Sorry, no experience with Turkish.
We did have an incident caused by a bird strike at LHR on the Addis-bound flight. This meant repairs were required at our scheduled stopover in Rome. Some passengers (primarily my friends) became a bit frustrated by the lack of information about repair progress. The Captain figured that people would rather sleep/rest through the night than be disturbed by announcements that had no immediate importance to the passengers. |
I flew JFK-IST and IST-JFK on Turkish this fall. Edible food, free alcohol, personal entertainment, average seats, in economy. Continually crying kids on JFK-IST, but can't blame the airline for that.

I've flown Turkish Airlines a number of times for mid-range distances (Paris-Istanbul) in economy. The seats were comfortable, with a decent amount of legroom and the food was good. I think you can get credit on United Airlines for flights on Turkish Airlines, if that's relevant for you. Turkish Airlines for that route was a more comfortable option than Air France.

i tried Turkish Airlines on long haul flights many times, especially for IST-BKK-IST route, and it was definitely fabulous. Legroom was decent and the food was excellent, You can use so many airlines CIP Room because Turkish airlines is the member of Star Alliance.

Turkish Airlines is a partner in Star Alliance so you will be able to accumulate frequent flyer miles on United or Continental Airlines for your flights.
