Turkish Airlines Awful
 

Turkish Airlines is awful. They closed the boarding gate twenty minutes before the departure time. I could not get to the gate before, because the airport was crowded, despite I have runned fast. The employees saw me, as they saw, too, an Asian family of four and a Turkish lady, who strongly knocked on the glass door, but they ignored us. They knew I was at the airport, as I did the check-in on time, but they did not mind. I think they were overbooked and so the last to arrive stays on the ground (in other airports we can hear them calling for passengers on the speakers, but not this one!). Then they did not care for me. They took advantage of the fact that I do not speak their language to ignore me (but they helped – and was the right thing to do - the turkish lady). They were very rude. They said they had nothing to do with me, was not their problem, they could do nothing since I missed the plane, so I had to buy another ticket (on information desk asked 800 Euros for a ticket!!). So I was left at the airport without any help, and I had to buy a ticket for the next day (which was more expensive than the initial two-way ticket). Later I complained to support service, but they continue to say that it's my fault that I did not arrive in time at the boarding gate. But it's a lie! They closed the door in my face, before the time!
Therefore if you use this airline, get ready, because they have no mercy.
And by the way, the service is nothing special ... The food sucks; and they gave me half a glass of wine and when I asked for more, they ignored.
I see now Turkish Airlines has thousands of complains in the Internet. They do not care for the passengers rights.
They reply the complains, with nice and beautiful words, while actually “stab us in the back” ... and with a smile :)
IF YOU CAN, USE ANOTHER AIRLINE

This one sf probably on you, friend. You missed the published cut off time for being AT the gate.

Every airline requires passengers to be at the gate from 10 to 60 minutes before the departure time. In the case of Turkish, their website, and maybe even your ticket, ADVISED YOU:

"Boarding gates close no later than 25 minutes for USA flights and 15 minutes for all other domestic and international flights before departure in order to complete last minute preparations, assuring on-time take off and on-time arrival to your destination."

If you were not flying to the US (you didn't state this) then I would doubt your "twenty minutes" claim (and they still can close the doors earlier although this is rare).

Too bad you will probably not return to this site to follow up but you undoubtedly are another universal complainer. Enjoy your life.

In case anyone takes the OP's rant seriously, my opinion is that the problem is IST airport, which truly is one of the worst in the world. They are building a new one in some remote corner of the country, but until that's done, you have to make do with this one. The flights to the USA leave from the most distant "gates" (they often use buses) and there are multiple stages of "security" before you get there. It's a lot of walking and a lot of waiting in lines.

Once on board, TK in business class is about the best there is. I've taken their SFO-IST service three times. Really excellent food (DO&CO) served by (electric) candlelight, a full flat bed, free wifi, and flights that are long enough (and sensibly timed) to enjoy it all, and get a full sleep.

Their regional services generally have proper business class (better than US domestic F), unlike the European airlines that just have coach with blocked middles.

The OP will likely be like so many other rants here and won't return, another one hit wonder. Turkish is a skyrrax 4*'carrier. We have flown them and would do so again. Their biz lounge is rated one of the best. I do not take posts like this seriously.

Clearly, this is a novice flier who thought that they could arrive at the gate when the plane was scheduled to depart rather than at least 30 minutes before.

I wanted to go through the traffic light but the other guys were slow. So when I came the light was orange and I sped to go through.
Really, it couldn't have bothered anybody. But some cops saw me and fined me. They were rude. I guess they took advantage from the fact that I am dumb.
I'll never drive anymore. Avoid cars.
