TSA PreCheck
 

I've heard that PreCheck lines are really long. What has been your experience?

No line

no line but it's still confusing. Last week the TSA people had to explain it.

Could depend on the airport but in my experience there's never been more that 2 or 3 people in Pre-Check line at any airport I've used (JFK, FW, MIA LAX, MCO, CHS). NOTE: Pre-check is not the same as the Priority LIne - which is usually much longer.

Oh ok, because I saw some comments online mentioning long lines, but they were probably in reference to Priority Line and not PreCheck. Had a hard time believing that PreCheck lines were that long. Thanks for your answers.

I've also read about precheck lines being long. In my experience, not so long. A few Flyertalk members say they are checking out pre check, priority, and the regular line before joining one! Depends on the airport, I guess. I usually go thru at ORD.

It has varied for me. I've walked right through at ORD, and I've been in a Pre line with 30+ people at ORD. Last time through at ORD a week ago, the Pre line was longer than the adjacent priority line (in Terminal 1), but it moved faster.

In Boston a few weeks ago, they were directing some people from the regular line into the Pre screening area after the ID checker, and I've seen quite a few similar reports on flyertalk about that.

OK, I just flew and didn't even realize that my boarding pass said TSA Precheck until I waited on the regular security line. So I went off and went right through on the precheck, but wasn't quite sure what it was all about as I had never signed up for anything like it. On my return trip only I was a precheck. My husband was not. The TSA agent explained that it is random. I just took the bag with the laptop and went to precheck and of course didn't have to take off my shoes or open the laptop or take out the liquids. My husband went the usual way and he did indeed take quite a bit longer.

Depends on the specific airport, overall volume at a given time, phase of the moon and mood of the TSA agent - but usually a lot better than the non-PreCheck lanes. Last time I used it at DCA it was nothing short of wonderful.

The only place I have run into any kind of delay in PreCheck is at Washington Dulles, but even that wasn't a big deal.

At least at the airports I've flown from, there have only been 3-4 people in PreCheck. I wouldn't call that a line.

I have only used TSA Precheck a couple times, but the lines have been much shorter than the regular security lines and sometimes non existent for the Precheck. Last week at LAX the regular security lines were extremely long. Precheck line took maybe 10 minutes at the most.
