TSA pre-approved?

I just printed out our boarding passes. We are leaving from JFK tomorrow for Switzerland. I see that there's a TSA pre-approved mark on each of our passes. What does this mean for international travel? Can we go to the front of the line? We're flying AA.

You use the separate Pre-Check line at security, just like domestic.

Thanks elberko.

We know that JFK is a zoo. We've done this more than a few times (we live in NY) and when you come into JFK it's not clear WTH that is. Need to check our bags first?

I know I sound like a first timer but really, it's been so crazy there, and rarely someone to help you, that half the time we're as confused as everyone else.

Security is always after check-in/luggage drop, isn't it?

Yes, you check your bags first, either at curbside check-in or at the ticket counter. This is the same as you would do without TSA Pre-Check.

After you drop off your checked luggage proceed to the TSA Checkpoint. There you'll see a sign for the TSA Pre-Check line. Simply use that line. With Pre-Check you DO NOT have to remove laptops or your zip-lock bag with liquids & gels from your carry-on nor do you have to remove shoes or jackets.

elberko - Yup. Of course.

I remember now that you self-check in your bag. Guess that was what the confusing part was for us. You have to go to a machine and put in your passport and which spits out your luggage tags which you then have to figure out how to attach to your bag, and then stand on another line to drop them off. That is, if there are lines. Last time there was a crowded mess.

Ah for the days when you just stood on line (yes, could take time) and had everything done for you.

And many times, the TSA Pre-check line is longer than the "regular" line. :-(

It only means when you get to the TSA section you will be pointed by the staff into the separate Pre-Check (which is usually shorter) line instead of the regular one. It also may mean things like you can keep your shoes on.

(You aren't "going to the front" of anything and doesn't matter if your flight is domestic or international at that point.)

Tea paycheck is for security, nothing to do with your bag check and you certainly don't go to the front of any line.
