Travel with iPad on International Flight
I will be flying on United from US to London LHR and on Scandinavian Airlines from London LHR to Stockholm ARN. Does anyone know what the latest rules for carrying iPad inside the cabin into and out of London LHR and Stockholm ARN??
Thanks! |

Thank you. Looks like I can take an iPad inside the cabin for now at least.
I don't want to use the iPad on flight but do NOT want to pack it in checked luggage. |
Totally agree. US and EU are still discussing this, right now it is only flights to the US from certain cities in ME and Africa.

The main problem I see is -- with the current heightened security situation, the rule could change at any time. Remember when one day you could take any sort of liquids on board . . and the next day you couldn't.
I am worried about two future trips I have (to Peru and to the UK) - my iPad mini is my primary mode of communication and info when traveling and I fly with carry on only. Transatlantic by ship and intra-Europe by train is looking better and better . . . |
Asking here is good, and you have gotten good replies, but yes, the rules could change at any time, so you might just have to check your iPad on your return.
(I generally don't fret too much about theft out of checked luggage, fwiw.) |

Looks like it
Thanks, Thursdayd! |
My colleague flew London-Stockholm yesterday (June 1st) with two laptops, an iPad and an iPhone in her hand luggage. She flew with SAS.

Good to know. Thanks.

The issue is not, as yet, intra-Europe flights. The issue is with flights from Europe to the US.
|
In the worse case, you could ship it home from your last destination before coming home.

I flew on Virgin Atlantic yesterday from LHR to SFO with iphone and ipad; no worries. You take them out and put them in the bin going through security.

Just flew from US to Stockholm and had no problem with iPad or iPhone.
However, in Heathrow, the security person took out ALL my NON LIQUID makeup and placed it in a small clear plastic bag! I asked why. And she said that if it goes on your face, it can turn into liquid!!! I just smiled and said, thank you. |
I departed London/Heathrow for the US yesterday. No issue for electronic devices allowed on board/in the cabin. However, I left iPad and iPod in bag and ended up having the bag emptied by their agents before my eyes after waiting 15-20 minutes while they slowly went through the person's bag ahead of me. No one tells you this requirement and I saw no signs. I did automatically took out my laptop. Going through that was NOT FUN!, but not a big issue. My mistake, I should have done more research to get the current requirements. I think the key is just to have electronic devices visible in the tray.
