Transiting thru Dubai
Am flying to perth from london via Dubai. Have read some reviews online about horror stories with regard to transfers. Has anyone any tips or advice?
|
hi mit, horrors like? I transfered in DXB on my way from Newark to Kuala Lumpur round-trip and there was no issue except for normal security measures. The duty free shopping there is considered the best in the world.
|
people were complaining about lenght of time to go thru security, to be expected these days i guess, problems at the transit desk, lack of queues and unhelpful staff.
|
Gotcha. The lines were not too long when I was there, but it also depends on a lot, like how many staff there are working when you arrive, how many flights are arriving around the same time your flight is, for example. I don't think that transferring through DXB is any worse than CDG for example, actually, I think it's much faster than say CDG, simply because the airport is not as GIGANTIC as CDG. Are you flying on Emirates then? Maybe you can phone them and they can tell you how many flights arrive around the same time your flight will be arriving?
I don't know if that kind of info is public knowledge assessible on a website somewhere? |
There's a day flight and a night flight from PER to DXB. The night one arrives 5:45a, which is a busy time for DXB. At least 18 EK flights are scheduled to arrive between 4:30a and 5:45a, mostly from East Asia and Australia.
The daytime flight arrives 1:15p. Mostly shorthauls from within middle east arriving at that time. |
Yes I am flying with Emirates. The London flight arrives just before midnight, which i believe is another busy time for DXB.

I just flew back on Emirates via Dubai from JFK to Chennai. No problems and very easy airport......
|
I have a 3 hr layover so i should be fine timewise for any delays

For anyone reading this, that plan on doing the JFK-Dubai flight......it is very usual for them to get into Dubai half hour or more ahead of the scheduled arrival time. This is usually due to the favourable tail winds. I flew on on the EK 202 this past monday night and the flight landed into Dubai at 7 30 Pm the next day - half hour ahead of time!
