What is the best way to get to Times Square from JFK.? I can't afford a limo but a van is ok.Also how long does it take? I've only been here once but went to LGA. Thanks

From JFK take the monorail to Jamaica Station. From there take the subway "UPTOWN" to 42nd St.

I usually just use the Supershuttle ("Blue Van") service. Takes between 45mins and an hour depending on the traffic. Just go to the Ground Transportation desk and book it there (can't remember the exact cost). There's also the new monorail as already mentioned, although it necessitates changing to public transport which is OK but a bit of a hassle if you have a lot of luggage etc.

THere's also the NY Airport Express bus that leaves every 20-30 minutes and stops at Grand Central and the Port Authority terminal, which is close to Times Square. The shared-ride shuttle vans are an option, but you never know where you'll have to stop before you get where you need to go. (I took one from Newark in February and it made six stops before arriving at my hotel. The trip took nearly 2 hours!)

The air train to Howard Beach ($5) and switch to the A train ($2) an express train which goes to 42nd Street and 8th Avenue, one block from Times Square.

marty makes a good point which i forgot to mention re. Supershuttle and the like; the last time I used it there were no other passengers but if it's full, it will stop at several other hotels and you can almost guarantee that your hotel will be the last one :(
Anyway it's still a good option for a point-to-point journey, which after a long flight is not to be sneezed at. |
