time to get AA ff award???

Due to personal problems we won't be able to look for AA frequent flier award till a few months before we leave in the Fall. Is it ever possible to get them close to the date?..the ones I had in the past were always almost a year ahead.

Thanks

I don't think anyone can give you an answer. It will really depend on where you are planning to go, when you are planning to travel and how flexible you are with your actual dates of travel. You should know that on most flights there are a limited number of award seats and if its a very popular destination they tend to be booked as much as 330 days out. Other destinations can be booked with as little as a month of so before the flight. Sometimes the airlines releases extra award seats on short notivce if a flight is not fully sold out by a certain date. You'll never know until you check directly with the airlines for your specific destination.

I always book my upgrade awards with AA way in advance for June which is a popular time to go to London.

However, a friend decided to go with me at the last minute a couple of times & was able to get upgrades a few weeks before the trip so I have to agree with Mrwunrfl.

I would imagine it just depends on how their full their flights are projected to be.

Something to remember if booking an award at the last minute:

Travel ticketed 21 days or more prior to departure None
Travel ticketed 20 - 7 days^ prior to departure $50.00 USD*
Travel ticketed 6 days to 2 hours† prior to departure $100.00 USD*

*Fees are per account and are nonrefundable. When multiple awards are claimed at the same time, each additional award is subject to a fee of $25.00 USD.

Hi
Not sure about AA but I was trying Continental for an International Flight and couldn't get seats 9 months out. Just for the hell of it I recently tried again and there was no problem getting two tickets to Zurich on the dates that I wanted and that is mid summer. Moral of the story...keep trying:)
