Ticket 1 way with enough miles.
 

This is probably something that is a no answer,but here goes. Is is possible to have enough miles for a ticket 1 way(50,000 miles) and purchase the other half of the ticket? I have tried to find an answer on US Air for a ticket to Rome, Italy,but there is a number to call about this. Anyone ever been able to do this?

50,000 miles is enough for a roundtrip ticket to Europe in economy - of course seats are limited.

What exactly is your issue? What are trying to do?

No clue about international, but for domestic one way and RT cost the same number of miles.

I want a roundtrip ticket to Rome on US Air from ClT in Sept. I have 50,000 miles,but it takes 100,000 for the round trip. Is it ever possible with FF miles to use the miles for half of the ticket and then purchase the 1 way back? Doing all of this at the same time- ff miles and purchase. I am doubtful that it is,but just wondered.

That's a horrible way to use your miles and cash, even if they allow you. Which they won't.

You should work hard with Dividend Miles to get a 50,000 roundtrip ticket to Rome. USAirways is a Star Alliance member, so your miles can be used to claim tickets on UA, AC, LH, etc to get to Rome. Not just on USAirways. If you are fairly flexible with your travel dates and the flights you want to be on, you should be able to find something.

If not, you should buy the ticket with money and save your miles on something else.

Thanks for the answer. I was almost sure this would be the answer,but just wanted to check. I am taking a cruise out of Rome so the dates could not be changed within too many dates. I have used FF miles for this same destination before,but I always had enough at the time.

On USAir, the FF for coach from US to Europe is 50K for Mileage Saver, and 100K for Standard. Is there no Mileage Saver award available? The 'Standard' requirement is just not worth it, in my opinion. I agree with rkkwan. ((*))

Even though there will be a fee, call a FF agent and see what they can come up with. I had to go this option for an open jaw and city not served by my FF airline. Worked out for me.

The cost of a 1-way ticket is always way more than 1/2 the price of a round-trip, so your idea really doesn't work.

A one-way award on USAir costs the same number miles as the roundtrip. You'd have to use 100,000 miles for your one-way Standard award (this is a horrible way to use miles, as mentioned above).

Last post told me exactly what I wanted to know. I would never use that many miles for one way. I have flown alot and you always wonder if maybe something has changed. I was never hopeful that I could buy a ticket one way and use FF miles for the trip returning.
Also I always try to fly from Myrtle Beach where I live thru Clt. We don't have many carriers at the beach to choose from.

you know that you can use usair miles to fly on united, right? and united serves MYR. Also fly tatl on other star alliance carriers.

Yes, I am aware of the Star Alliance. Checking on the flight on United I want it is over $200.00 more than US Air. Also Delta flies from here,but goes through ATL and is more expensive. Regardless I think I will go with US Air as I continue to get FF miles with a credit card plus flights. I have flown thru CLT and Philadelphia so I am familiar with that airport. Did you call USAir when you checked for award availability? If so, did you make sure that they searched for availability on their partners?

I don't have airmiles to make the flight at this point. I have 50,000 and that is not enough. I was only wishing I could pay 1 way and use the 50,000 for the other half,but of course that is not done.
