American Airlines is raising by 25% the number of miles required to redeem tickets for travel within the U.S. and Canada or between North America and Hawaii, according to the New York Times.<BR><BR>http://www.nytimes.com/2003/04/09/business/09AIR.html

This was announced about 5 months ago. It will take effect on May 1.

Is it only those routes that will be affected, or is the Caribbean included?<BR><BR>

Here it is:<BR>Award Updates<BR>Award Mileage Increase<BR><BR>Effective May 1, 2003, AAdvantage award mileage levels for travel within the continental U.S. and Canada will change as follows: <BR>P40R - PlanAAhead� First/Business Class award from 40,000 to 45,000 miles <BR><BR>A40T - AAnytime� Economy Class award from 40,000 to 50,000 miles <BR>A80J - AAnytime First/Business Class award from 80,000 to 90,000 miles. <BR>Mileage levels for travel between North America and Hawaii will change as follows: <BR>P60BR - PlanAAhead First/Business Class award from 60,000 to 75,000 miles <BR>P80AY - PlanAAhead Premium Class award from 80,000 to 95,000 miles <BR>A120AB - AAnytime First/Business Class award from 120,000 to 150,000 miles <BR>A160UU - AAnytime Premium Class award from 160,000 to 190,000 miles. <BR>Award travel between California and Hawaii will continue to be available at the current (lower) award mileage levels for travel through December 31, 2003.<BR>
