Terminal 3 and 4 at JFK - Some Concerns about Connection

Continental One Pass Rewards has put me on a flight in August into JFK via Delta landing at 2:39 pm and connecting with Northwest to Amsterdam at 3:50 pm. In researching JFK airport I see that Delta is in Terminal 3 and Northwest is in Terminal 4. With only an hour and ten minutes between flights, is this possible? Continental has confirmed the fact that my bags will be handled and states that the "legal" time for this connection is an hour. The rep also said I should not have to leave the security area. However, when looking at the JFK terminal map, Terminal 3 and 4 look far apart with no connecting tunnel or walkway.

Can anyone calm my concerns and let me know if this is a disaster waiting to happen or am I worrying about nothing? Also, I do realize that August is a ways away and the flight schedule could change and loosen up.

There is an airside shuttle now between B/C and D.

Only problem is that based on this thread on flyertalk.com, the shuttle doesn't run on a schedule, so you may have to wait for a while for its 2-minute ride:

Read post #127 and 128.

But things can change between now and August. Also, DL/NW flights may use different gates then. For example, DL's JFK-LAX transcon has started to use T4.

Terminal 3 is next to terminal 4 and is reachable by the Airtrain (one stop). If your flight into JFK lands on time, then you should be able to make the connection easily. If Delta does in fact offer its own shuttle service between terminals, then you may not have to leave the security area. You do if you take the Airtrain.

The other thing to keep in mind is that you're probably getting on the first flight of the day to Amsterdam. There are others, so you should be able to get on a different flight if something goes awry.

Yeah, good point. There two more KLM-operated flights JFK-AMS later in the day. As long as there are open seats, NW will have no problem putting you on those if you miss your 3:50p NW-operated one.

All good answers. Thank you. My concern was that we might miss the flight and we have business seats and I was worried there would not be any on later flights. I was hoping that perhaps Delta would go into the same terminal as NW (as rkkwan pointed out) as maybe others are connecting as well. I am sure Continental knows what they are doing (no comments on that lame statement please). It just seemed tight for the beginning of a trip. Way to much stress already. LOL

All Continental knows is that DL/NW let them book that award for you. They don't need to know anything else. They don't even operate at JFK.
