Taxes refunded when Canceling a Flt

I have to cancel a UA flt for medical reasons. I know UA will issue a voucher and then charge me a change fee when I rebook. What about all the fees and taxes? Can they be refunded to me directly or to my credit card?

Wise of you to cancel the fit. I hope the airline appreciates your thoughtfullness and refunds fees and taxes promptly.

I would expect the fees & taxes to be refunded to the original form of payment, that is, if they are refundable.

i guess my question is, are they refundable? one UA person said, no, they aren't. i thought they were.

When I have cancelled flights on AA, the taxes were refunded.

I have never heard of treating the taxes and fees as separate from the ticket when allowing a change.

Taxes and fuel surcharges go with the fare.

The only times I've heard of people TRYING to get back the taxes are when they're on NON-REFUNDABLE tickets and they need to forfeit the tickets. Not trying to change or switch, but straight out forfeit them. And results vary.

thanks, that's what i needed to know.

Sorry, my taxes/fees refund was for a cancelled flight using award miles. Miles were redeposited for a fee but taxes/fees were refunded. Sorry for misunderstanding.

Taxes and fees are ONLY applicable when you FLY. If you don't fly, there are no taxes or fees to be paid. Therefore, they should be refunded in the same way as the airline's flight cost is. But not separately which is what it sounds to me like you want to happen.

Odin Nov 7th, 2014 11:27 AM

Some taxes are non refundable, whether you fly or not. That's why the results vary.

What taxes are non-refundable in what country if you do not in fact recieve the service/product paid for Odin? Airport use tax, fuel surcharge, greenhouse gas tax, ales tax, what?

If you buy a jacket in Odin-Land and then return it for a refund, do they not refund the tax? I'd like to see a link to something saying a tax is non-refundable.
