TAP airlines-carry on?

Has anyone flown TAP airlines lately? I am going to Madeira next week on them and am wondering if they are as strict as Easy Jet/Ryan Air in regards to carry on luggage? I have read their baggage info but some EU airlines include purse, newspaper, water bottle, etc. as your carry on and you end up checking/paying for stuff.

The US airline that I fly for is very lenient in what they allow folks to bring on in the cabin but EU carriers are totally different! Thanks-

Their website says 1 piece of hand luggage up to 8 kilos dimensions 55x40x20cm. In this case, a separate purse would not be allowed. FYI Ryan Air's cabin baggage allowance has changed and you can take 2 pieces, the website has dimensions.

I flew on them recently and they were extremely strict. Be warned that they weigh ALL the bags at the gate.

Well my recent experience with TAP was yes and no....

Oct. 22. this year i flew out of Miami to Faro through Lisbon ......no one looked at our carry ons.

Flew Faro/Lisbon/Rome early Nov. and carry ons were not weighed.

Return to Portugal from Rome....carry ons WERE weighed at check in at FCO for everyone.

TAP back to Miami at the end of Nov.....no weighing.

I did notice that most passengers had small roll aboards....smaller then my 22 incher that I always use when flying United to Portugal. We had purposely left those home and used smaller looking "gym bag"
style ones so they maybe would not initiate a weigh in. We would have been in trouble at FCO as our carry ons were all we had and I am sure very over weight but due to our quick thinking and a bit of "maneuvering" we were able to only have one bag weighed, eyebrows were raised when she saw the kilos, but as the agent assumed that was our only bag being carried on let it pass.

I think in the US airports and Lisbon they are not so concerned with the weight but leaving Madiera might be different as was our Rome experience. I do not know what they would do if they find your carry on is overweight ....maybe have you, check it and pay extra if you have already checked your one allowed bag??
