Strange extra security ATL-DCA yesterday

First, I did not get TSA Pre-Check on my boarding pass. I almost always do but since don't usually fly Delta or from ATL, I figured this was reason. Sitting at gate in ATL I noticed TSA personnel walking thru and looking around gates - not searching, more looking while strolling. Then gate attendant announced that TSA was re-checking all IDs prior to boarding, and they had 5 TSA guys doing so. Plus searched a few carry-ons. We sat at gate past departure time, and pilot announced they were checking on a hydraulic problem (which was fine with me) but we could see outside window of plane that there were quite a few people looking in several places on the plane that did not seem like maintenance guys.

Two other things - likely just random Friday evening traffic, but possibly of note. Upon landing we sat somewhere between runway and terminal gates for about 10 minutes, with pilot indicating there were 2 planes blocking access to our gate. And then upon plane parking at gate, it took an additional 10 minutes to attach jetway. (Plane was within 10 minutes of being on time).

I was flying first class so there were frequent travelers within earshot. They seemed to agree with the guy next to me who had a million miles on Delta that this was very unusual and something was up. Wondering if anything specific was up other than the general increasing scariness of the world in general and that it was DCA.
