Stopover using frequent flyer miles on NWA

We are planning a trip to Hawaii in March of next year and I found flights for 40K miles each ($900 if purchased) using Worldperks miles on NWA. The routing is Iowa - MSP - LAX - HNL. We are also interested in stopping over in LA for a couple of days but when I put in multi-city with a couple of days delay between the Iowa-MSP-LAX and LAX-HNL, it gives me all of the flights to select but at the end says that it can't process the request and to call NW.... which I will do, but curious if anyone has any ideas or thoughts on how to make this work? Thanks.

The info on their website makes it sound like you can't stopover.

Probably cannot stop over and Delta and Northwest should be one airline after the first of the year-Northwest is being taken over by Delta.

You can stopover if the award is issued by Delta. If you can find the same itinerary through Delta, you can open a Skymiles account (if you don't already have one) and transfer your Northwest miles to Delta instantly.

I didn't look into the Delta thing but I did call Northwest and they said no stopovers. Oh well - just means we won't get to stop and visit my parents for a few days and I can live with that! I'm just excited about getting $3375 worth of tickets for 120,000 miles! All those work trips my husband took have some value!

Iowamom, Don't give up. See post below. Call NW agent again -- preferably late at night. You may be surprised by the response. Be sweet, a bit chatty if appropriate, tell him/her how much you would love to see Mom and Pop, etc. I've had stop-overs with NW FF tix many times. Good luck.

Were your stopovers on domestic itineraries? Stopovers are permitted on intl itineraries.
