Southwest credit question
 

The price went down, I changed it, and now have credit for future travel. My flight now is for me only, 1 person.

My question is, can somebody else use this credit? Can I make reservations for my friend using this credit, if she will fly by herself on another date to another destination?

Or I am the only one who can use this credit in the future?

You can use the credit for anyone.All you need is the confirmation number and you might be asked who the "cardholder" is.Very simple.

Faina, That is go great! Love those SW credits.

A suggestion for those who fly a lot on SW. As Faina has mentioned, they often have sales on fares and will give you a credit for future use if the price goes down.

Sometimes only one leg goes down, but you would have to cancel both parts and rebook to get the savings. That's ok if the other leg is still the same price as your original ticket, if it has gone up then you bargain will disappear.

To avoid this, book each segment/leg separately. Go on 1 ticket and come home on another. Since SW doesn't penalize you or charge more for 2 one way tickets you can change one leg and not worry about the cost of the other being more if you need to change 1 part of the itinerary. Also works if only 1 part has a lower price.

Deb, you mean if I fly, for example, San Francisco - New York changing planes in Phoenix, I should book them as 2 round-trips?

Faina - No, Deb means you should book as two one-ways.

SFO-PHX-wherever as one ticket.
wherever-PHX-SFO as the other.

Oh, in this case Deb is wrong.

I booked a round-trip the first time, and both discounts are for the return leg only. The website lets you pick either or both to change them.

That is news to me Faina, I was pretty sure you had to cancel the whole ticket and start all over again to get the better price.

On the main page of Southwest, on the right, the button "view or change your flight". The last change was yesterday, I got $36 discount for one leg only.

Initially it was $99 to ABQ, $179 going back. First time, I got -$20 discount on the return only, yesterday -$36 on the return only.

I did not cancel anything, only made changes.

Maybe they just started doing this recently?

ONe of the other great things about SW is that if you find a lower fare on one leg of a RT ticket and cant figure out how to re-book at the lower ate, just call their customer service and they will guide you through it or do it over the phone.
