Southwest and pax rights

My niece got caught up in the mess with the computer failure on Wed. She waited in Seattle for 6 hours, 3 in line to re-book as all computers were down then from people re-booking. No hotels, no food vouchers. This was their fault, not an act of God. She got a flight out yesterday so two extra nights in Seattle but it was delayed and she missed her connecting in Chicago. She was supposed to get a 1 am flight but it was cancelled so now the best they can do is sent her to Laguardia or she has to wait till Sunday night for a flight to Albany. She is taking the flight to NY and catching the train to Sarasota. This is such a huge mess. No hotel, no food. What are her rights? She said the gate agents have no authority to do anything. She is pregnant so very upsetting to me. She would have got a hotel last night but they kept telling her 1 am and then delay and then cancelled. She wants a bath!!

She just text me that they were on the plane for 15 minutes last night till they realized there was not a co pilot. Not making this up.

I have been to flyer talk and that post is 15 pages long. Horror stories. No crews, no pilots, offering people 50% off on next flight to be used before Oct 31st.

She can get a AA flight to Albany today for 1,263.00. What a bargain.

In Europe she'd be due 600Euros in compensation.

The U.S. airlines have strict rules for changes and cancellations. Unless THEY'RE the ones doing the cancelling.
