Southwest Airline, seat assignments?
What are your thoughts of Southwest planning on doing seat assignments in the future? Convenient, time consuming, don't care?
I heard in the news this morning there will be changes... so this is what it is: seat assignment! Personally I like assigned seats everywhere, even in the movies. For me it will mean convenience - no need to stay in a long line or ask for pre-boarding, less time consuming as there will be no need to get to the airport earlier for check-in with luggage.
This is the first I've heard of this. I never liked having to stand in the boarding group line to get the seat I want. I would rather choose my seat when I book my ticket, then I can sit down at the gate until they call for seating in my row.

As a parent with young kids who gets first dibs boarding the plane, I don't like it.
It's supposed to take a year to start this up, so I suspect all the news "leaks" are just floats to see if it's going to go over well or not. If you have strong feelings, now would be the time to let SW know.
Yes, please!!! The standing in line at the airport makes the wait to board terribly inconvenient and stressful. Especially when the plane is delayed-- I was in line in Los Vegas last August and thought fights were going to break out!
Would much prefer it, especially given how often flying Southwest entails a connecting flight -- whatever advantage you might get from arriving early for the first leg disappears for the second flight if you don't have a seat assignment.
What really bothers me with Southwest(and I've told them) is connecting flights.
You can be in the "A" group for your first flight but you can't get your boarding pass for your connecting flight unitl you get to the airport for that flight. This means you will get last choice for seats on your connecting flight. Unless it has changed aleady..there ought to be a way to get boarding passes for both flight at the same time...or at least get you into the same boarding group. |
After her last flight on Southwest, my 70-year-old mother (who has flown with them quite a bit over the years) said, "Never again." She is not very big and apparently got jostled a bit too much by people crowding at the gate. Even though she lives in Southwest's hub city, Phoenix, she will go out of her way to fly on an airline that offers seat assignments.
Yes, a great idea. We also vowed never to fly SW again because of the objections mentioned above.... Arrive early at original destination, then get put into later boarding group with small chance to sit together when boarding connecting flight.
I'm a person, not livestock. Give me a freakin' seat assignment and treat me like an adult.
What is the best way to let Southwest know what you thinK? They don't accept email -- which I think is outrageous!
The best way is to write directly to the airlines's headquarters in Houston and direct the letter to the CEO.

Kathy...Southwest HQ is in Dallas, not Houston.
