Souheast Airline "Record"
 

I'm flying from St. Petersburg to Allentown, PA and found this airline has a direct flight for an amazing price. One of my concerns is that they only have one flight a day. What if that flight has mechanical problems, etc. Has anyone had any experience with this airline and/or know where I can get "performance" statistics.

I don't know what kind of price you are getting, but I just tried a R/T in March and the fare was somewhere around $250. You could do better on majors from TPA or SRQ.

But if you did get something very special, then allow me to answer your concerns. A small, start-up airline like this may be fine airline, till something goes wrong. In most cases they don't have agreements with other airlines, and they don't have replacements available if the plane does have mechanical. I would say 95% of the time you'll be fine, it's just the other 5% that could put a real twist to your plans if it happens.

Don't have any first hand knowledge of the airline. Can't help you there.

If you are referring to Atlantic Southeast Airlines, that is a subsidiary of Delta, for what that is worth. A lot of the larger airlines have been starting low-cost subsidiaries, and I think this is one of those.

Atalantic Southeast Airlines and Southeast Airlines are two different airlines. Southeast headquarters are in Largo, Florida and as far as I know they have no connection to Delta. They fly out of Columbus at Rickenbacker Airport and they have great fares. We also have Hooters Air which also fly into Ft. Myers and other Florida cities with great fares.

I did some quick research and this is what I found. The airline is under a federal license to operate as a charter. They do have regular scheduled flights, but the difference is, they have to put your money into a government held escrow account until you complete your trip. No problem there.
They have 8 planes, DC-9s and MD-80s. That's where the problems could be, but again, in most cases, it will be ok.
