We're flying American airline on (Sept 17 2007) DFW to CDG ( 767-4) then, American airline FRA ( sept 30 2007) back to DFW (777?) in coach. This is our first time over the pond. Has anyone else flown this route and does is suck? Thank you.

It is a 767-300 to Paris, and sure, coach sucks. It will suck slightly less on the 777 as the seats are a tad wider and you have seatback video. If there are two of you try for the sides where there are only 2 seats.

If you have any status with AA you should be able to reserve exit row seats, row 21 on the 763 and row 31 on the 772.

If no status then you can still try at the airport during check in.

Exit row seats make economy flying into "almost" luxury....:-D (just kidding) but it does make it more comfortable on a long trip like this.

AA is no better or worst than most airlines in economy. Just like any US based airlines they do charge for alcoholic drinks but everything else is free. You will get a dinner and breakfast on the way out and lunch and a snack on the return.

No individual screens on the 763 but you will get them on the 777. There are "communal" screens on the 763.

Don't worry, it's not as bad as some like you to believe. It's pretty much the same with all airlines these days whedn traveling in coach.

Yes, the food sucks, the drinks are $5.00 and the flight attendants are rude. American is not the airline to fly across the pond in coach. IMO. Enjoy your snack pack.

I can remember TWO rude flight attendants on AA since I've been a member of their FF program (1986) & that included many years when I flew a lot more than currently.

We're only flying American airlines because my husband has two free round trips tickets to Dallas that he won on the radio station here in Boise. As it turns out American had the best price for our travel plans. I am trying to change those 13 H and J DFW-CDG seats.

Chicken fat or beef fat in gravy will be your meal choice. The snack pack is beginning to sound better.

Ok I changed the seats to 11 A&B. Still in the mini cabin. We will bring some small snacks with us.

I wouldn't put too much stock into what our friend Wally says (he usually hits the wine bottle early and it shows).

Yes, some people are critical and actually expect water on the flight.

Gardyloo--I can't help it. The wine is just overflowing here in the British Airways economy class.

I have flown both of these routes and my suggestion would be to bring some extra snacks. The food is not good and although I don't have a huge appetite, I find the portions served on AA to be inadequate.

I flew FRA-DFW in coach last month. It was OK - the movie selection was poor for April, and the food serving size is tiny. I'm a thin person and even I feel the portions are too small. The 2nd "meal" which is more like a snack - was inedible. it was some kind of microwaved panini; so chewy that I couldn't even eat 2 bites!

My only comparisons are the JFK-LHR where I have taken BA, VS and AA.

BA and VS although cramped in coach treat passengers in a professional manner. Their meals, although not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, are very much more edible than the beef or chicken offered by AA.

Of course the point has been made about the charging for drinks on AA...with BA and VS you get free booze and wine with dinner for free. Both give a real food on the continental breakfast on the flight over and little very good sandwiches about an hour out of JFK.....AA give sits famous inedible snack pack. VS and BA give ice cream about halfway through the flight on the way towards JFK..AA nothing.

In short, BA and VS give a damn about their pax...AA seems not to.

Yes, I was happy with the snack that British Airways gave before returning to the United States. Sliced apples, grapes, a small sandwich. I liked the way they said at the beginning of the flight, don't hesitate to pop into the galley if you need something.

But we love beef fat - bring it on. Seriously, I am a loyal AA flier. I have always had great service, regardless of class of service. I like them and they are always able to accomodate my requests for FF award seats. Good outfit. Just wish they didn't charge for booze on International but maybe for the best - won't drink as much and sleep better.
