small scissors allowed?

Are we allowed to carry on those tiny scissors that come in those little sewing kits? Hoping to fly with carry on only and no checked luggage on our next trip. Thanks.

Hi, I have carried tiny scissors for my hand sewing on Singapore Airlines with no problems at all, but have you seen these? Might be the answer to your problem.

My scissors have blunt ends and the blades are less than 1/2 an inch but normal size finger holes. Another suggestion I have heard is to remove the cutting blade from dental floss and use that.

Good luck, I never go on holidays with out my sewing!

tsa.gov "Scissors - metal with pointed tips and blades shorter than four inches" yes

Yes, they are permitted if they have blades shorter than 4 inches. However, not all security screeners conform, some view things differently, and I have had several pair taken within the last two years. In each case they passed through without comment in one airport and then confiscated in another. Yes, you can ask to speak to a supervisor, but sometimes I didn't have the extra time needed to argue my case/play their games.

Not usually a problem, but don't bring them if you aren't prepared to lose them.

Many thanks for the responses. Maudie-Like you, I really enjoy my stitchery when on holiday. But it's always gone into my checked bags before our upcoming trips in May and Oct. I think I have a pair of blunt ended scissors. Also, the floss idea is a great option. Thanks again, one and all. Shirley from Nemo,TX

My husband had his favorite two sets of scissors taken at Hanoi during our last trip abroad. It may be Hanoi....but they were taking all scissors --no matter the size or type. And of course he was really pissed about it because he has taken those scissors in his carry-on for years...and years! Oh....and of course they were his favorites! So he was in a funk about it for awhile...but the scenery in Myanmar erased all his pain.

gailmo-Glad you had a good trip despite the aggravation. Have never been to that part of the world. Maybe one of these days we'll make it that far east!
