SJC/S.F.
Next spring we will need to fly out to CA and wonder what the chances are of finding a DIRECT flight from Boston to either one of these airports..SJC is closer to our destination although San Francisco is only 35 miles away. Is San Jose a place we could also play tourist?

If you like JetBlue, you're in luck. They have one nonstop a day between Boston and San Jose. There are many, many more flights between Boston and San Francisco though on a variety of airlines, so you'll certainly want to consider it.
Depending upon what you'd like to do, you can play tourist near San Jose. They have a few good museums downtown, and it's close to some great hiking. You're also not too far from the beautiful Stanford campus and a bunch of cool small towns like Saratoga. |
Another very nice small town near San Jose is Los Gatos--more of a village, really, with great shopping and restaurants. The town is well located for a trip over to the coast at Santa Cruz.

Options for NON-STOP (which is different than DIRECT in airline language) are far greater into SFO. It's a quick drive from SFO to San Jose on US 101.
Both UAL and AA fly BOS to SFO non-stop. FYI, the difference between DIRECT and NON-STOP is that a direct flight simply means the same flight # from point a to point b. There can be stops, and even changes in equipment along the way. I learned this the hard way a while back by getting stuck in O'Hare snow on a direct flight east to west. |
Thanks for the information..NO WAY-NO HOW do I want to make stops for any reason. I want to get on the plane and land in S.F. or SJC...thank you for the help on the little towns..We have a funky (real that as cheap) hotel in S.F. and we would probably be renting a car anyhow to visit relatives and to go down to Montery and Carmel..
