Short-ish layover at LHR
I'm going on a trip to Slovenia and I plan to fly BA or possibly AA/BA. From my home city I can fly straight to LHR on BA, then connect to LJU. The problem is the short connection time of 1 hour, 45 minutes.
I've made connections many times at LHR, but never in 1:45 hours. This involves a change from T5 to T3, and as you all know, I'll have to re-clear security. This schedule makes me very nervous, especially since they only have one flight a day to from LHR to Ljubljana. So if I miss the connection, I'm stuck in London for the night. (I love London, but getting stuck is never fun) If I leave a day earlier, the connection time in LHR would be much longer and that's OK, but I really prefer to leave on the day I've planned. Another possibility is to take an earlier flight to London, but that would add a connection in the US through another city. This trip is happening in May so I don't have to buy the ticket right away. I'm really learning toward not taking this short connection, but I would love to hear your thoughts. What would you do? Editing: Whatever I do, this will be booked on one ticket, and of course, luggage will be checked through to LJU. |
Are you flying out of DFW?? The T-5 > T-3 connection can go like clockwork or . . . totally pear shaped. BUT with the new DFW/LHR trial you don't have to go through security on a connection. AFAIK it covers any BA/AA flights between DFW and LHR whether T3, T-5 or both. But maybe ask over on Flyertalk to be sure. I haven't transferred at LHR since before they started the new program.

I would be flying from AUS to LHR on BA. I heard something about a new agreement between DFW and LHR, but I didn't know it was already effective. If I do add a connection in the US (allowing me an earlier flight to London) I'll look at DFW.
Thanks janis. |
I think it started in January eastbound and in June westbound. Who knows - it may be expanded to other airports between now and next Spring.

Maybe I haven't done enough searching, but from what I've found so far, this only applies if you're coming into DFW, not LHR. I would like to read more about this so I'll keep searching.

Its late here (or should I say early) so I don't have time to do more research right now -- but I had book marked this article by The Points Guy https://thepointsguy.com/news/one-st...0long%20flight.
Most is a bout DFW > LHR but farther down the text it says this: "As part of the new setup — a partnership with the United Kingdom — travelers are already enjoying a similarly streamlined security process in London. Last winter, the U.K.'s Department for Transport started allowing Heathrow-bound passengers from DFW and Atlanta to skip the security recheck before catching a connecting flight in London. American estimated the Heathrow one-stop program is already saving travelers up to 45 minutes at the major European hub." NOT that TPG is always accurate ;) |
