Shop4miles.com and other FF shopping sites
 

I just received a mailing from www.shop4miles.com about earning FFF while shopping. Is anyone using these sort of sites for their holiday shopping? Is it legit?

I don't know anything about this one, but I've used Mileage Plus Mall (United) quite a bit over the past several years, and am doing so again this year. I usually get 2 or 3 miles per dollar spent, sometimes more if there's a promotion. It usually takes a few weeks for the miles to post.

Of course the sites are legit. The FF programs are the most profitable divisions for most of the US based airlines. Airlines love to sell miles to any merchants, banks, hotels, CCs, restaurants, etc...

Thanks AAFF and ms_go. Do you know if there's an advantage to using a site like shop4miles versus a site that is specifically linked to a certain FF mile program/airline?

You will need to compare but generally speaking the airline's shopping sites will probably get you more miles.

For example, the iPod on the front page of shop4miles.com site is priced at $389 which will give you 390 miles.

If you can find the same item at Target, BestBuy, CircuitCity, on AAdvantageShopping.com, at about the same price, then most likely you will earn 2 or 3 miles per $ spend.

You just need to watch them. I received a mileage credit for some purchases on aadvantageshopping, but it was only half the amount due. When I emailed them, they acknowledged that I was due the double miles from their promo, but I'm still waiting for the miles - since 11/15. Not a long time yet, but how long should it take? The purchases were made in September.

Actually, the iPod for $390 and 390 miles will, if bought through J & R using the AA holiday special site, earn 6 x 390 miles (2340) + 390 more if you use an AA Citibank card. If you value miles at roughly 2c for redemption purposes (a common rule of thumb) then the total of 2730 miles would be worth around $54. Not too shabby.

I'm using Delta's SkyMiles shopping site,and use my SkyMiles AmEx. This is the first year I've done it, so it will be interesting to see how quickly the miles really pile up, and how long it takes for them to post.

Macy's is presently awarding 9 miles per dollar spent.

These sorts of sites are legit but I don't know about that one specifically. I wouldn't use the link in the e-mail but would go to the airline's website to find the link. The shop4miles site probably is legit, but if hawaiianair.com is linked to shop<b>for</b>miles dot com then shop4miles could be a scam.

At shop4miles if you click on the &quot;Get Started&quot; button you are given a registration form to fill out. Problem with this webpage is that it has a form for you to fill out personal info but it is not secure (the address is http: not https: ).

To see a good webpage, click on the Hawaiian Airlines logo and you are taken to a secure form: https in the address and a locked lock in the bottom bar of the IE browser window. Double-click the lock and see that it has a valid certificate.
