Seafood special meal on BA

We're flying coach to LHR and I'm considering the seafood special meal. (No dietary problems, just wonder if this is an upgrade from the basic hot meal served in coach). Anybody tried this, and if so, is it worth the effort to request it? Thanks

Worth an effort to request a meal just to be served first :)

Honestly I would never even want to eat seafood on a flight!! It's just too delicate and I would be MUCH more concerned if it had been sitting around or somehow mishandled or not properly refrigerated, than the usual items like pasta or beef. Plus it smells.

Have you ever seen the movie "Airplane"? Suze is spot on.

Actually, if you're flying BA, Suze is not 'spot on' at all. I have flown BA to LHR 4-5 times a year for the last 16 years and almost always request the seafood meal. It has always been quite good. One advantage of ordering special meals is that they are not prepared in large batches long in advance but are specially prepared to order and delivered to the flight separately from the other meals.

Don't yell at me. I just said I personally would not want to eat seafood on an airplane.

Nobody's yelling at you. OP asked, 'anybody tried this ...?' and I'm just answering the question. Yes, far as I can tell, I'm the only one answering so far who's actually tried it.

Yes seems you are right about that, julia1. Sorry.

Dayenu Sep 22nd, 2010 07:44 AM

I didn't try. Just know that special meals are served before everybody else.

I can't suggest anything about the seafood itself, but are you worried about the normal hot meal? I flew BA to LHR last December and their food was actually really good, much better than United's last month or the food that I remember from other airlines.

If you're worried about the normal meal due to other airline meals, don't worry, it's much better than on many other airlines!

If you want to "upgrade" from the normal meal because you've had it and disliked it, I'm sorry, good luck with the seafood and ignore me! :)

As an airline employee I NEVER eat seafood anymore on flights!

Any special meal is prepared individually, right?
