I guess my long ago post had another error; it is EZjet rather than Ryan that uses the superconvenient CIA airport for Rome. In any case I don't get the taxi comment. These discount airlines almost always have special buses synchronized with their flights for the little airports with poor public transit. Check their web site carefully for airport bus arrangements.
It's not harder but easier then - just a seamless conveyor belt from downtown to flight to downtown, like train travel. I have seen them smooth over problems that would normally create a mess at the larger airports. CIA airport closed for a few hours for security, and EZjet held the Rome outbound bus so we could all eat drink and be merry some more. On a ryanair bus someone forgot their luggage and the bus did a U turn for it and certainly wouldn't let the plane go without all of us (I thought the last was a little over the top, and would have been happy to see the forgetful passenger booted off the bus).

Ugh. Those abbreviations - calling Ryanair 'Ryan' and Easyjet 'EZjet'- are so vile. It makes me cringe when people call British Airways as simply 'British.' Ugh. So hideous.
Anyways, both Ryanair and Easjet operate to Ciampino in Rome which isn't terribly inconvenient by Ryanair's standards.
And allanc, I don't know who you flew with for such a bargain price between Manchester and Glasgow, but it sure as hell wasn't Easyjet. I can't think of any LCC's who operate this route. And as for a fare of $650 that BA apparently quoted you, well, I think somebody's telling fibs. The full fares on MAN-GLA is $530 for a fully refundable/flexible ticket. There is no higher fare available. In a true spirit of competitiveness, Bmi's full published fare usually matches BA's to the last penny.

cosmic...the three leg travel was amersterdam-bristol-edinburgh-amsterdam. The 1GP fare was a seperate trip to edinburgh from bristol, not manchester. As I recall, Easyjet was one of the few that had a direct AMS-Bristol direct flight. Certainly was the cheapest and all flights were within 10 minutes of sched.
