I've never flown on this carrier. Apart from stringent baggage limits, is there anything I would need to know before considering booking with them?

You can check a bag for a fee, correct?

Is there anyone here who would NOT fly with them again, and if so, could you tell me why?

Bag for a fee, yes...in fact, virtually everything adds a fee, even checking in online!
Space is cramped, service is pleasant at best, and they often fly into airports well removed from the city which they advertise as serving - for example, they fly into Paris Beauvais airport, which is almost 90 km from Paris.
Only reason to fly them is cost, IMO - and in making comparisons, need to add in time and expenses for transportation from their airport which may be at a distance from your actual destination .

I have flown with them but would only fly with them again if there is absolutely no alternative. When looking at the odd weekend break in the past and Ryanair was the only option, I just changed the location. Once you add in all the extras there is often little difference in cost and if I did fly with them I would just make sure to add in all the "bells and whistles" e.g like extra leg room, early boarding etc just to make the flight almost bearable.

My policy exactly, for decades now. Everything about them is tacky & annoying. I resolved years ago if Ryanair was the only way to get there, I wouldn’t go there.

I avoid them if at all possible. No interest in lining O'Leary's pockets.

I heard that there is a little space for a passenger. Probably it possible to pay extra for more space like Eurowings or Wizz offer?
I can agree regarding location. I don't know about all airports, but in Germany they are operating from Weeze airport EDLV or NRN. It's quite far from Dusseldorf, Essen and Dortmund.

If you follow the rules Ryanair is perfectly fine. It's a bus with wings. It'll take off on time. It'll arrive on time.

For that matter Vueling is okay. It's also a bus with wings. Same baggage limits. Ryanair tends to have newer planes. Some of Vueling's are hand me downs from other members of the group. BA and Iberia .

If you're looking for complaints Vueling a few years back had quite a few. I think most related to strike cancellations.

That leads to the main point. Ryanair is huge. Well over 200 hundred million passengers a year. If 1% complained you'd have 2million complaints. It's still 1%

I am currently in Sicily and we will be flying to Malta on Saturday. Our only option for non-stop service is Ryanair. We're not looking forward to this, but it's such a short flight, we will tolerate whatever comes. I will report back soon.

I guess you can consider it research. I’ve done the research & would take a ferry.

I fly Ryanair an average of six to ten flights a year. Honestly it's perfectly fine.

The people who you hear whining either ignored the rules or didn't even bother to read them.

If you can manage taking the train or the bus Ryanair won't be any worse

I'm glad to hear that Nick. I've heard legroom is tiny, so my DH will hate that. But it's a very short flight from Catania to Malta, so we will survive.

All those planes are similar. You can book up front if you want a bit more but in general the difference between the airlines is 1 or maybe 2"

Ryanair has about one inch less seat pitch than std airlines economy seats plus about an inch less in width. So pitch is 29 and width about 15.5 inches.

We flew Ryan Air yesterday. The flight itself was very short and bearable, but the check in process was awful. You really must have the Ryanair app or it will be even harder. As mentioned above, make absolutely sure you know the rules to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

What check in process? You're supposed to check in advance. If you have priority you're allowed to check in sixty days before the flight.

I assume you mean the bag drop?

They only had bag drop, and we already did have boarding passes on our phones. At the airport we still had to weigh the luggage, scan the QR code on the scale, pirint the tag, then scan the tag when we dropped the bag. The line to do all this was very long, with about 100 people ahead of us. I am told this whole process is new, and I believe a lot of people were confused.
