Round the World Ticket
#21
I'm topping this thread because today the Oneworld alliance launched an on-line booking tool for Oneworld Explorer RTW tickets. The tool uses a graphical route construction tool, checks the routing for consistency with the rules, then tells you the price including taxes and fees based on the country of issue and origin. There

%$#@! laptop posted before I finished...
...based on the country of issue and origin. There are probably some bugs still to be worked out, but it's a first-rate tool with which you can not only plan a RTW but actually book and pay for it.

Gardyloo,
Thanks for posting this.
Now, if we could only book our AA overseas award travel directly online with CX, JL or BA (or even AA, for that matter) - that would be a real step in the right direction.

Some good stuff there gardyloo and I may have spedread too fast but one aspect I've seen before with RTW tiks is that you have to keep going in the one direction.
That may have been for only cheaper versions but if it still applies to all the OP would have to rethink US>Safrica>SAmerica I'd expect.
For anyone interested in buying overseas in a cheap place, especially with current Xchange rate check out www.bestflights.com.au
The other bit I'll add is as well as using the likes of oneworld, have a check yourself of what can come up using the likes of http://www.airtreks.com/ and then by using budget airlines in regions - www.attitudetravel.com look at minimising your airmiles/sectors and ultimate RTW price.
US$4000 is one helluva lot of $$$$ compared to A$2-3000 which can get you a great RTW.

Bushranger, the US$4000 figure was for a business-class RTW, which is a totally different animal than an A$2500 RTW that uses a set of LCCs. Not saying that one is necessarily a better bargain than the other, but you really are comparing 2 very different products.
