Recent Experience with Lithium Batteries??
 

I'll be traveling to Turkey via Munich in a couple of days. I will have 4 lithium rechargeable batteries for my Canon 40D camera, which I plan to take in my carry on. The back of the batteries read 7.4V 1390mAh (Li-ion). Can anyone tell me if I might run into trouble based on the battery restrictions? I've checked the various sites, but I am still at a loss.

Not in checked baggage. No restriction in carry-on.

In January the TSA changed the rules, which are somewhat confusing but basically you are OK with batteries the size used by the 40D. We took eight somewhat larger lithiums, including two six-hour computer batteries and a big battery for flashes, on trips to Europe and Africa not long after the rule change and the TSA guy said we were fine. All of these are a good bit larger than the 40D batteries.

Below are links to the rule change. Briefly the two keys are they don't want extras (ie, not installed in the actual devices) in checked bags, and there is a size limit on ones in carry-on bags, but basic laptop, cell phone, digital camera type lithiums are small enough to pass muster.

7.4V x 1,390mAh = about 10.286 watt-hour. The "larger" batteries are 100-300 watt-hour ones.

Thanks to you both for the info. Not planning on putting any of the batteries in checked bags, so looks like we'll be OK.
