Quick trip to attain frequent flyer status

Jump to last reply

This may be a stupid question, but hear me out: I'm getting very close to attaining frequent flyer status for the first time. In addition to the trips I already have planned, I need one more trip before the end of the year to meet the requirements to achieve it; so, I booked a very quick trip to do this. On this trip I will get to my destination, and then just an hour later fly back to my point of origin (same plane and even the same flight number). In my mobile app for the airline I'm using, it shows both the outbound and return legs of the trip separately, even though both routes will be flown on the same day. I'm guessing that means I'll have to check in for each route individually rather than just once for the whole day? Even though it is all on the same day, with it being 2 different routes, I won't need to leave the gate area and go through security again at my destination airport to fly back to my origin, will I? I will have already checked in with the mobile app and use the mobile boarding passes and will obviously be in the already be in the gate area for the return flight after getting off the inbound flight. Again, it's probably a stupid question, but hopefully all of that makes sense. Just want to make sure since I've never just gotten off of a plane and gotten right back on it only an hour later to fly back to where I came from before. Thanks.

P.S. Have any of you frequent fliers out there had to make a quick out and back trip like this to attain (or maintain) your frequent flyer status?
