Question for those who regularly fly Continental Express

I am gearing up to travel very differently than I have for the past 20 years.
As a lifelong AA customer, I am about to begin my new year as a CO frequent flyer.
Most of my flights will involve a leg to IAH on an ERJ and a connection.
I need any CO advice you can dish out.
My specific questions are:
1. Is 1 hour long enough to connect from a CO ERJ flight to a CO jet? This seems to be a standard connect time sold by CO, but it seems a little tight in my AA mind.
2. I am going to try and carry on all my luggage because I live in fear of lost bags on 2 day business trips. I don't travel in business clothing, so I NEED my bags (not that no one else does).
SO... I know that I cannot carry on my suitcase on an ERJ. They will gate check it.
Do they give it back to me at the gate at IAH or will I have to go to baggage claim to get it?
This is really important since I will have these 1 hour connections.
Any EWR or IAH tips?
I am starting off as Platinum Elite ... or whatever it's called. That's the good news...
Any comments are welsome!
Happy New Year!!

When they 'gate check' it you pick it up as you get off the plane before entering the terminal, you don't have to go to baggage claim. So maybe a couple minutes delay waiting for them to bring it up but not long.

Excellent. This was a BIG fear since the whole point of carry on is avoiding the dreaded connection mishaps!
Thanks!!!

Cool that they match you to Plat right away! And remember, seat 12A!!!

An hour is usually fine for connecting at IAH, though it'll be quite a rush. Your EX flight will arrive at Terminal B, and it can be quite a long walk to get to the train, especially from the B gates on the south side of the terminal as well as B84 gates (A to Z or so it seems). And it can still be a long walk from the station at C to the south side or the station at E to any E gate.

Longer walks than from the DFW train to most gates, though the train ride itself is shorter than say from DFW's west side to east side.

Happy New Year!

Hi rkkwan... long time no talk :)
12A on what aircraft? The ERJ?
I have an OCD regarding seat assignments!
My first CO flight is next week.
I am forever grateful to them for the match. I am sure it will make all the difference!

Yes, 12A is FC on the ERJ, which you will be on all the time, sadly. As a Plat, you can get them in advance with no cost.

Yay! That's the seat I grabbed on all 10 ERJ's I will be flying in January.
