premium seat on Continental?
 

Booking EWR to SAN and they have some seats that are labeled "premium"...I did a search and can't seem to find what this means...? nor the price... Thanks for all the help here.

In addition to Premium seats being reserved for OnePass elites, etc. CO told me one time that Premium seats had dataports and the non-Premium didn't.

I'm not aware of any price difference between the two.

As far as space, the premium seats are identical to the non-premium s eats, and are open to any passenger, not just elites, from 24 hours before the flight.

I don't know what data ports are, but planes used for almost all domestic flights do not have power ports (I believe this is changing). Planes used for international flights almost all have power ports in the first few rows of tourist class, but I'm not sure this extends to all premium seats (I think this too is changing). The continental web site has information on each plane showing which seats have power ports, recline, less width, etc.

Yes, premium seats can be selected only by OnePass or ST elite passengers. They are toward the front of the plane and exit row seats.
As to data ports - no CO craft have data ports at present. Some have power ports, but it varies by type of plane. seatguru.com shows them.

I may have been told wrong or remember wrong if "dataports" is not the right term.

Well, I wouldn't count yourself out. I was able to get a premium seat by selection on the Continental website. At one point I talked to an agent on the phone and she didn't understand how I got the seat but said she would leave it be (I was trying to upgrade to first). Maybe because I had a more expensive coach ticket. I have minimal miles with Continental and no other status. One way upgrade Palau-Guam-LA was only 12,500 miles but of course nothing materialized with me being waitlisted.

Many people sign in online at continental, but you can't do that until 24 hours before the flight. At that time, the restriction on premium seats is also lifted, so as part of the sign-in process, you can change your seats also, and possible get a newly-released seat in the premium section. You can also try to change seats at the kiosk at the airport, or at the counter where you check your luggage (one reason for not using curbside luggage drop off).

I have elite status, but have often found myself sitting next to someone who does not, but who got the premium seat when signing in.

Sorry, I guess the seat selection must have changed since my flight to the 24 hours before restriction. I got my seat months before but that was late last year for my flights in May.
