Possible merger - UA and CO?
<i>NEW YORK -- The flight networks of Continental Airlines and United Airlines would make a "knock-em-dead combination" if the carriers were to merge, Continental Chief Financial Officer Jeff Misner said.
If United were to offer a "bucket of dough," Continental would consider it, Misner told an investors conference Thursday. "We're not going to sit by and have the world rush by."</i> <b>http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-0512090215dec09,1,5577129.story</b> |
Yes, there's a pretty lively discussion about this on Flyertalk.com as well.
The route structure of the two airlines will indeed compliment each other very nicely - with virtually no weak spots IN the US or FROM the US to anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, the existing fleets will be hard to merge, they use seperate booking systems, and most importantly labor issues will take years to resolve. Personally, I would simply like closer ties of the two airlines, and CO quitting Skyteam and joining Star Alliance. That'd mean much more flight choices and FF awards to Asia from Houston; and switching from AMS/KL to FRA/LH for European connection won't be too much of a loss. |
RK, I'm registered on Flyertalk, but can you point me to the link?
Interesting topic...damn, the implications it would have for both. Hope both you guys (AA you too) are well. Scott |
