Plane crashes with survivors

I recently read the story of the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 plane crash and how it took 72 days to rescue the survivors. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uruguayan_Air_Force_Flight_571

Quite an interesting read!! This happened back in 1972 so I barely remember it but watched a show on PBS about the accident the other morning.

Can anyone think of other plane crashes where it took more than 72 days to rescue the survivors?

I've never flown over the Andes, but if I do, I want to be in a jet.

Wally I flew over the Andes and dh was kind enough not to mention that I was flying over the andes till we were in Paris. Our flight was canceled and they re-routed us through CHILE to get to Paris from Dallas (don't ask) - I am a nervous flyer...so it is best he did not mention it.

Wasn`t there a book written about this? I read it long ago, and still remember it!

Pat I feel like there was...

there was a Fed Ex plane that crashed over the ocean and 1 person, tom hanks i think, survived for several years before being rescued

rizzuto there were 2 people, the other was named Wilson. You probably forgot Wilson because he was such an airhead.

rizzuto there were 2 people

Perhaps you meant to say "there were 2 survivors."

OK, if you prefer to call a soccer ball a survivor instead of a person then so be it. Wilson was a survivor. The plane crashed and he bounced right back.

Wasn't this the Argentina soccer players on the plane? I think the film was called "Alive."

P_M-your reply was hilarious.

This is the plane crash that the movie "Alive" is based on starring Ethan Hawke. You know, the movie where the surviving passengers ate the ones who died so they could have food. Seriously.

In a weird twist, after I saw this post, I went upstairs to watch TV and when I turned on the TV, right there before my eyes on the channel that came up on Cinmeax was "Alive." It was rugby team...

At least they made it out alive. I am not sure any of us can say what we would do in the same situation.

The book, ALIVE, is an excellent read!
