Photos from my flights to and from HKG on CO and AC

http://rkkwan.zenfolio.com/coachkg0211

Some recent flight photos, including Row 16 and the tiny bassinet in front of 8KL on CO's 772, mood lighting on AC's 77W, pancake machine in the Plaza Premium Lounge in YVR, Row 7 on CO's 739, and more.

The flights were uneventful, though I now find AC's economy well below average for trans-Pacific. No towel, no menu, mediocre food, very few movie and audio choices on their AVOD (as compared to any other airline with AVOD) and just poor service onboard (infrequent water/beverage service, lights kept on too long and too bright for mid-flight snack, rude FA, etc).

I like the looks of that UA 739ER. Wondering what routes that style of plane is flying. And wow.... what an interesting route to HKG!!

Thanks for sharing your photos. Always interesting.

Oops... I see, it's a CO plane. What w/the merger, maybe I'll get to fly one sometime!

wally - I don't drink anymore, not on the ground, and definitely not on the plane. And seems like nobody around me was drinking either.

simpson - Yeah, CO has already repainted a lot of their planes into "UNITED". The 737-900ERs are used on many of the heavier domestic routes as well as Canada and Caribbean. They do have the front lavatory for economy, which is lacking on most of CO's 737-800s.

Is beer and wine still free on Pacific flights with United and Air Canada in economy, but not with Continental? Was Air Canada pretty good about turning off the Fasten Seat-belt Sign, rkkwan? I had three flights in a row with Continental (one was a five hour fight) where the fasten seatbelt sign was never turned off. It appears if there is one little bump, the sign stays on for 50 minutes until all bumps are gone.

Will beer and wine break up this merger?

wally - When you fly Continental, you just ignore the fasten seat belt sign and use your own judgement. As for my AC flight HKG-YVR, it was a bumpy flight and they did cycle the lights on and off, pausing the AVOD for announcement quite a few times.

Alcoholic drinks are free, but you won't see them being offered to you like on CX or SQ. No wine glass on the tray either. You have to ask when they serve beverages.

Can you identify the food on the tray in photo 48? It looks like a sausage and marinara sauce, mushrooms and potatoes. And is that some sort of rice cake? It's all interesting and I would eat it, but I can't really say I know what it is.

That bassinet looks like a sure way to suffocate a baby. That's just too scary. Why'd they bother doing that? Good spot for your chihuahua, maybe.

pdx - Yes, sausage, mushrooms and potatoes. Eggs underneath the marinara sauce. In the fruit tray is watermelon, pineapple and dragon fruit (officially pitaya).

The bassinet cover stays open when in used. Won't suffocate a baby, but yes, it's sized for a chihuahua.
