Patty - Delta question

Hi Patty -
We have a flight coming up from Columbus to New Orleans with a layover in Memphis. The website doesn't give me a chance to select seats from Memphis to New Orleans. In all our flights with Delta we've never gone through Memphis so I was wondering if this is something that I can about bet on changing before we take off? It really doesn't matter to me either way, I'm pretty much just being plain ol' nosey.
Thanks!

MEM-MSY is not DL. It's a Northwest codeshare. See if you can go into nwa.com and find your itinerary with your PNR (6-digit confirmation number) and then get seats assigned there.

If not, call DL to find out what your NW PNR is, then do it on nwa.com. Or call Northwest.

Ah ha, I sure didn't see that one coming!! Thank you very much, rkkwan - I'll do it right now.

I now see what is going on - you can pick seats on Delta as soon as you confirm, but cannot on NWA until 90 days before the flights. Now my question is, since this is a codeshare what airline rules do we fall under? I can reserve seats free on Delta, but it costs to do that on NWA.
Sorry to be such a bother, and thanks for any help.

NW's limitation applies so seat assignments won't be available until 90 days prior.

Thanks Patty - what about paying for seat choices? Delta doesn't charge, but NW does - since it's a codeshare do we have to pay for those segments?

If you want those choice seats, then you'll pay. Otherwise, you can still get assigned the non-premium seats.

Oh well crap, my husband has a past history of seizures and prefers an aisle seat, just in case. I guess we'll just have to suck it up and pay more.

Thanks for your help.

You can get aisle seat on NW for free. Choice seats are only for selected seats on a flight, despite what some newspaper articles or other Fodorites want you to believe.

I mean selective. There are plenty of free aisle seats available.

Cool - That makes me feel a lot better! We really got great rates for the flights, in spite of the horrible news about costs skyrocketing, so I wasn't going to whine too much (yeah, right) but this is great.
Thank you so much for the information.
