Passport Signature mistake

I am going to be traveling to Italy in one week. when i was signing my passport i made it very illegible, and my pen ran out of ink so i went over in a different pen, i heard that you can make a single line through the bad signature and sign above it, is that true? i really want to still be able to go. what can i do? i dont want to have any problems when getting to the plane. please help me?

Nobody ever matches the signature on your passport to anything when you fly.

No one has ever cared

About my totally unreadable signature

One more thought - at airport, hand security your boarding pass, passport - and then shut up unless asked a question. Don't lead with a long story about the pen running out of ink, what your friend said about drawing a line thru the signature, etc. And an altered passport - with a line drawn thru signature - is far more likely to draw attention than without.
