Overnight Layover at LaGuardia
 

My husband and I are flying from London back to Nashville in October but we have an overnight layover at LaGuardia. The flight lands at 9pm and we fly out at 7am the next morning. With us traveling from another country will be able to check our bags straight through to Nashville from London despite the layover? Also will be able to sleep at the airport on the airside? Ive slept on the landside of LaGuardia before and it is not pleasant but I was hoping since our flight the next morning is the same airline we fly in with that we might be able to just stay in the terminal but I've also heard everyone gets shuttled to Terminal B who sleeps airside. Any information would be helpful

There are no hotels at LGA. You must stay landside. I simply can't recommend sleeping in the airport. While you can do it, it's not worth the trouble in my opinion. You won't reach your LGA hotel until midnight in all likelihood (and even then only if you take a taxi), but getting 5 hours of sleep is better than nothing to me.

Because you will be changing airports, you will not be able to check your bags all the way through, and you won't want to go to the airport on your night of arrival and check them even if you could (I don't believe you can).

Changing airports? Maybe terminals? I suspect they can check their bags through, after picking it up, going through customs and giving it back to the airline.

We land at LGA at 9pm and fly out of LGA at 7am the next morning..my issue with getting a hotel for 5 hours of sleep is that it's $150 to sleep 5 hours that's ridiculous and not worth the trouble in my opinion. I just want to know if they let you sleep in the terminals or if they kick you out to ticketing? I have slept in ticketing at LGA in the past and would prefer to sleep in the terminal if that's allowed

The OP must be flying from London to somewhere else to LGA, because LaGuardia doesn't have flights to/from UK/Europe (perimeter rule). I'm not even sure there are US C&I facilities at LGA--there didn't used to be, but maybe that has changed??

I can't answer your questions about sleeping in the terminal, because I've never had to do that. But maybe someone could be of more help if you tell us the route and airlines involved.

You could be right ms_go, I see on a 3rd party booking site, flights from London to LGA are least expensive on Air Canada, stopping in Toronto, and would also explain the late arrival at LGA. Or maybe Norwegian, but their site is down at the moment.

yeah we found out that we will go through customs at our layover in Toronto before arriving in NYC so I would then assume they would check our bags through from Toronto to Nashville despite the overnight layover.

Yes, I've found in similar circumstances, the bag re-check should be very handy to give your bags back. What have you found regarding your overnight at LGA? Anything useful on Sleeping in Airports?

. . . as was mentioned on your other thread, booking a 'cheap' flight (if it has gawd awful connections) may be a false economy . . .

You may or may not be able to check your bags all the way through from Toronto. Some airlines allow it, and some don't. (Most do.) By all means check with your airline and see. However, since you'll be making an interline transfer (Air Canada to a domestic airline to Nashville), I have no idea.

That doesn't change the fact that sleeping at LGA with the local homeless population isn't particularly pleasant. Good luck.
