NYC TO TORONTO FLIGHT COSTS

I've been researching flights from New York City-area airports to Toronto, flying on a Saturday in September; returning on Sunday. I was suprised to not find one for less than 350.00 (including taxes and fees). Is this route unusually expensive? Any ideas? Alternate airports? Help!!! Thanks.

Air Canada has nonstop flights for $257... Sept 10 - 11.

Thanks NoFlyZone. I've been checking 24/25 and couldn't find anything at that rate...

I've noticed that flights to and from Canada are always more expensive than I would expect, based on the distance involved. Someone once posted a gripe about taxes, and that could very well be the cause.

I can get to Buffalo for 199.00 R/T the same weekend (often an alternative airport for Toronto). Would anyone know if there is transportation (shuttle bus, train, whatever...) from Buffalo airport to Toronto? Unfortunately, I can't drive.

Canada airfares have been much higher than a few years ago when Canadian is still around. Less competition. Even Westjet is not cheap, now that other discount carriers have fallen.

Now we almost always use 25K FF miles for tickets to Canada.

I just checked WestJet. They don't fly in and out of NYC...

Canjet.com LGA-YYZ 9/24-9/25. $256.74 all in.

USAir via Pittsburgh or Philadelphia. $324.73

Other non-stops, from about $343.

I think Amtrak has a daily train between Buffalo and Toronto, but it probably takes a lot of time and departure times may not coordinate well with your flight and, while Amtrak fares are fairly low, you would have the costs of getting from the airport to the train station, both ways.

Amtrak also has a train from NYC to Toronto, I think less than $80 each way, but it takes about 12 hours (trains are much more comfortable, however, than the back cabin on a plane).

Thanks everyone. I've pretty much tried everything. Canjet only has one flight a day and the times didn't work. I looked into Amtrak but it is a full day of travelling. Given that I'd have to book a second night in a hotel. It doesn't seem worth it. I'm either going to have to use miles of hope for an airfare sale. Thanks again for all of the feedback.

Not sure it would be much cheaper... but you could fly to ROC, then take the new fast ferry to Toronto - more for the experience than the price I'd imagine! Jet blue flies to ROC from JFK, Continental goes from Newark...

There are buses that run from buffalo to toronto via niagara falls. They only take a couple of hours. Check Greyhound. (Two of my kids are college students up there - one in Buffalo and one outside Toronto and this is how they visited each other before one got a car.)

Is this for the Scotiabank marathon? If you haven't booked yet, check again. EWR to YTO for 254.00 or thereabouts. I'm planning to fly in Saturday morning, and fly out Monday.

American Airlines usually has the best deal from LGA -> YYZ. Check their fare sale section. I just did a search and found a regular priced seat going for $218.54 leaving LGA on Sept 10th and returning on the 11th.
