NWA Expert advice needed. 1h 30m layover Detriot to Kiev

We just booked our flight from LAS to Kiev, Ukraine (KBP) on NWA. Nov 9 to Dec 15. We arrive DTW at 3:55p and depart 5:25p (change plane) will that be enough time? Some of their flight through MSP was something like 50 minutes.

We are in seats 35 H&J and arrive Amsterdam on a A330-300 2/5/2 at 7:15a and leave 10a. I hope that's enough. As it gets closer should I change the seats to a middle row in hopes no one will sit between us? I'm afraid to give up the window seat now untill I see how full the plane is.

We will be bringing a small child back with us (adoption) don't know when. I see NWA charges extra now Row 29 that can be used for the bassinet. We will already be paying over $1700 for his R/T ticket (which will be used O/W)plus $200 each to change the return tickets.

Our return out of AMS is on a DC10 seats 29 H&J and hope 29 G is open for one of us. Should we go back further (maybe crying baby). Would the noise of being in the back help drown out the crying? Or doesn't that even help.... just covers it up for us but not those farther up. Hopfully the little guy 15 months + will sleep most of the way.

Any help on how these planes are to give us something good to look forward would also we appreciated. How's the food? We don't have much time in DTW to probably get anything.

Thanks, Marge and daughter

90 minutes at DTW is more than enough. You don't go through any security or immigration there, and DTW isn't too large. So, that's totally acceptable.

The 330 is 2-4-2 in coach. I think you should just stay with the H&J seats with two people traveling.

You have lots of time at AMS, as you're only transiting, so no passport control or customs. [You'll have more than enough time even if you have to do that, which you don't.]

I don't know about NW's policy about bassinets and babies, but I think having a bulkhead seat will make your journey much more comfortable. I definitely wouldn't base my hope that an aisle seat (G) will be open. With planes filling up to like 80% on most airlines' European routes, that's really wishful thinking.

I agree that 90 minutes to make a plane change in DTW is a piece of cake. The Northwest World Gateway terminal at Detroit is incredibly efficient and easy to navigate. It is one mile long, with gates on either side, people movers and an interior tram. (Do keep in mind that international flights board earlier than domestic flights, but even at that, you have plenty of time.)

I also agree with the idea of bulkhead seats and not counting on any seat going empty. (It's possible, but it's a poor gamble.)

To quibble with rkkwan just a bit, DTW is quite large (the A concourse of the Northwest terminal is a mile long), but I agree that navigating it is a piece of cake because it's so well-designed. There's an aerial tram that connects the north end, center and south end of the A terminal (where if you're coming from LAS you'll arrive and depart), along with numerous moving sidewalks. With 90 minutes, you'll even be able to get a massage at Ora Oxygen.

Boy! THANKS to all....that makes me feel better. After I wrote I called NWA and mentioned about the baby on the return DC10. She is moving our seats to row 10 with the added note that we will be traveling with a small child and put in his name etc.

Also, NWA - Joyce mentioned that because LAS is 60% booked and we couldn't get our seats that if we called 24hr before departure we will be able to book them ourselves on line. I hope not too many people know about that till we get our seats.

martytravels - might still have time to get that pizza and massage. Thanks for the tip.
