rkkwan, you are right -- history has an unfortunate way of repeating itself.
I've been convinced for some time now that the airlines have an almost universal contempt for the passenger, but what started out as an anomaly a few years ago with NW is becoming more and more of an everyday event.
It's simple -- things are not going to change until we demand Congress pass a Passenger Bill of Rights. The airlines have been promising things would improve for years, and they've only gotten worse.
I urge everyone to contact their legislator and demand action NOW! Here's an online petition I signed, and I encourage everyone out there to sign, as well:

As one aviation expert who was interviewed recently said, things will not change until the flying public stands up and demands change . . .
